The artisans who practice this art are a rare sight because of which now the Government of Himachal Pradesh have started a training center to teach and save this unique art form. We have found a place for you in the heart of New Delhi where you can get this embroidery done on handkerchiefs commonly known as ‘Chamba Rumal’.

Himachal emporium located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg offers many forms of art and craft, which belong to the valleys of Himachal Pradesh. A rare sight in itself, this art is not very commonly found around the city and Himachal Emporium is one of the few places you can buy and appreciate this historical art form. This art is basically done on the Rumals (handkerchief) of different sizes from one square feet to ten square feet, which can be framed and used as wall hangings.

Since popularly used to depict Gods and Goddesses, these can also be used as gifts or used for religious purposes. White unbleached cotton or fine muslin cloth is used on which needlework is done with the help of silk threads. The main reason why this art is considered to be unique is that the both sides of cloth are replicas, be it the face, eyes, leaves, mountains, the whole scenery is quite serene and a treat to sore eyes. The artisans who practice this do the needlework in continuation and no knots are involved in this process, making this artwork unique. At the Himachal Emporium, you get the Chamba Rumal commonly donned with excerpts from mythology containing creations of Gods and Goddesses, the finished piece is handed over in an antique wooden frame, which rotates and looks beautiful. This framed Rumal can be used as a showpiece and one can easily see the replicated embroidery on each side.
