Punjab has a rich heritage of art and culture. Amongst them one which is very famous is Phulkari, flower embroidery. At one point of time its even used as synonym for word “Embroidery”. “1469” , a store in Janpath named after the date of birth of the first Guru of Sikhism, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji  provides you the authentic Punjabi Phulkari made by their Karigars.  It also has a variety of different kind of Phulkari ; the chope, cloth used in traditional ceremonies which has embroidered on the borders only; Ghunghat bagh, a dupatta having triangular embroidered part in middle and border; Bawan Bagh, consists of various geometrical designs on the cloth; Suber, cloth worn by bride while taking Pheras have embroidered five motifs one in center and other on each corner; Satrangi, seven colours are used to complete the embroidery.

“Phulkari embroidery originated in 15th century AD. Since then it has become an important part in the lives of women in Punjab. It is generally done on cotton and khadi but nowadays chiffon, georgette and crepe are also being used. Manipulation of patterns, colours and the length of stitching done on bright colours like red, yellow, orange, pink is the essence. 1469 is a humble effort to give an impetus to our Punjabi roots as for us being Punjabi is not just our qualification but our achievement”, says Harinder Singh, owner and curator of the brand.
