The Royal Flea Market

Rajasthan’s old-school quirky furniture at Amar Colony’s Kabadi Bazaar.

Rajasthan is often called the shoppers paradise, it  is famous for all things colourful, from semi-precious stones to traditional art. Even the cities are famously named as  pink for rose-tinted ‘Pink City Jaipur’; golden for the “Golden City Jaisalmer’’ and White for the ‘The White City of Udaipur’’ (also sobriqueted as the city of lakes).. The vibrant culture of the state makes it a tourist heaven. Due to intricate carvings and bright colours, Rajasthani furniture and handicrafts are huge attractions around the country. The antique royal looking furniture is what  could add the distressed look to your home in the form of side tables, corner tables, cabinets, and more, that too with a pop of colour!

Amar colony’s Furniture market aka Kabadi Bazar can can be your saving grace if you want to add a pinch or a whole bucket of colours to your home décor. The refugee colony has many highlights since 1950s but this hidden gem is not known by all. Here, several traders and dealers present to you second hand, slightly worn out but good for use again home decor which is also refurbished and sold in half the original price, exclusively traded from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The market comes alive on Sundays, when regulars, celebrities descend to hunt for bargains. The shopkeepers help you locate or procure a particular style or period piece. Most shopkeepers have their team of carpenters, polishers, painters who are master restorers. They excel in reproductions. They refurbish the furniture it and make it ready for sale. You would find from bright coloured bookshelves to really quirky vintage decorative items inspired from Rajasthani culture which could add a  dash of funk or class to your home.

Want a statement mirror in your space? Get one of the huge carved ones in distressed bright colours like cyan, lavender, or even yellow and let it take over one side of  you room. The flea market gives you number of items that you might gaze at longingly at 'vintage' and 'antique' websites, where they cost a bomb, but may be a lot cheaper here.

We strongly recommend a nice half of a sunny day exploring this flea market thoroughly, so you can fill your house with these novelties and heirlooms.
