Madhya Pradesh’s art inspired blocks spotted at Tibetan lane

Block printing is one of the oldest technique to create different patterns on textiles and Madhya Pradesh is consider to be the home for Block printing. Every region has different kind of size and rhythm of pattern depending upon the inspiration behind the design motifs, pigments or colours available in their region which gives the unique style of block printing to each and every region. The printed textiles of Bagh located in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, are the piece-de-resistance of hand block-printing. Bagh is the name of the hand block print that is famous is Madhya Pradesh. Its name is derived from the village Bagh on the banks of the Bagh River.

Bagh block printing has lot of geometric  and floral patterns. It is generally done on a white background, on top of it red and black colours are used.  Traditionally they use natural colours, black is prepared with ferrous sulphate mixed with tamarind seed powder. If made with traditional methods in Madhya Pradesh each saree take about 3 weeks to complete as it include 15 steps to complete the process. The fabric they use is originally cotton; though now saw tassar, crepe, and silk are being used with excellent results.
